Recovery Driver

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Vehicle Collection Driver to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience, and an interest in the automotive industry.

About the role

The Company Driver is responsible for collecting scrap and auction vehicles from private customers, garages, and vehicle recovery operators. The role involves safe and efficient lorry driving, customer interaction, and supporting day‑to‑day operations within the yard and office when required. Flexibility, professionalism, and a strong work ethic are essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Lorry driving duties, including vehicle collections and deliveries.
  • Collecting scrap and auction vehicles from private customers and recovery operators.
  • Contacting customers to confirm collection times, locations, and access requirements.
  • Washing, cleaning, and maintaining the company lorry to a high standard.
  • Assisting office staff with organising and coordinating collections.
  • Handling cash safely and responsibly when required.
  • Providing general support around the yard during quieter periods.
  • Ensuring all paperwork, collection notes, and customer signatures are completed accurately.
  • Following all company policies, safety procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Representing the company professionally at all times when dealing with customers and partners.

Skills and experience

  • Full clean UK driving licence relevant to the vehicle category operated.
  • Previous experience driving commercial vehicles/ lorries in a professional environment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle checks, defect reporting, and safe loading/ unloading procedures.
  • Understanding of driver hours, tachograph regulations, and road transport legislation.
  • Basic knowledge of scrap vehicles and vehicle recycling processes.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to identify obvious vehicle defects.
  • Experience working within service level agreements or delivery targets.
  • Knowledge of route planning systems and transport management software.
  • Proven safe driving ability and strong road awareness.
  • Basic computer and handheld device usage skills for collection/ delivery systems, route planning, and electronic documentation.
